TV at Two = Trouble at Ten?

A study of about 1,300 children from Quebec at the ages of 2 and 10 reveal that the more television the children watched at the earlier age, the more likely they were by age 10 to suffer from a host of academic, social and health problems.

The TV watchers were more likely to be less engaged in their studies, to exercise less over the weekend, and were more likely to be picked on by their classmates, the study found. The study took care to rule out other factors.

Researchers believe the negative effects may be attributed to the rapid development of the brain in early childhood and the intellectually and physically passive nature of watching TV. The study did not establish a causal relationship, however.
