eBay Sellers No Longer Forced to Offer PayPal After Investigation by Australian Regulator

Australia: eBay will no longer force sellers to offer PayPal as an option in Australia after an investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission into possible breaches of the Trade Practices Act.

Sellers can now chose between PayPal, merchant credit cards, and Paymate. Graeme Samuel, chairman of the ACCC, said that the company had agreed to make the change after discussions with the regulator. A review will be conducted one year from now.

"After a two-year investigation we think this has cured the problem. But we´re not done yet ... we will put this in the to-be-reviewed basket. This is a win for both buyers and sellers as it gives them choice and flexibility..." said Samuels.
