TOKYO —
The rainy season is believed to have commenced in the Okinawa region and nearby Amami in southwestern Japan on Thursday, making them the first areas in the country to experience it, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The season began two days earlier than average in Okinawa and four days earlier in Amami, while it began 12 days earlier than last year in both areas, according to the agency.
