After test results that proved non-smokers are negatively affected by second-hand smoke, the navy officially bans smoking from submarines.
The decision will come into force by the end of the year. Cigarettes will no longer be given as part of the survival gear of sailors, Lt. Commander Mark Jones of the Commander Naval Submarine Forces confirms.
Besides food and water, they have been provided with cigarettes for years. Above decks, the Navy decided, smoking is still allowed.
