Study: Bad Health Habits May Take Up to 12 Years of Your Life

Excessive drinking, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle and a bad diet can age people by more than a decade, suggests a recently completed study. Nearly 5,000 British adults were tracked for 20 years and their habits were studied.

The four bad habits combined increased participants´ risk of death dramatically and made them seem 12 years older than people in the healthiest group, which consisted of people who never drank and had never smoked or had quit.

Participants in the healthiest group also got at least two hours of physical activity per week and ate fruits and vegetables at least three times per day. The study´s lead researcher pointed out that "you don´t need to be extreme" to be healthy.
