Japan´s Prime Minister Resigns After 8 Months

Today Japan´s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama announced that he will resign from office. "I´m going to step down. I have had many shortcomings, I have been allowed to lead all of you for the past eight months to today", he says.

His Democratic party won the election 8 months ago, which was said to be a revolution in Japanese politics. He promised a cleaner government, giving more power to politicians and local governments.

Shortly after, however, some of his cabinet members were investigated for corruption and his image changed. Thus he lost public trust. The next parliamentary elections are set for July.
