Americans Want Congress to Spend Money on Job Creation

Gallup checked the popularity of several legislative initiatives and found that 60 percent of Americans want Congress to spend more on economic stimulus and job creation. That initiative is favored by majorities of Democrats and Independents.

A sizable percentage of Republicans, 38 percent, also favor additional stimulus spending. 56 percent of Americans also favor legislative efforts to regulate private companies´ energy use in an effort to reduce global warming.

Republicans also oppose that legislative effort, along with increased government regulation of banks, which is supported by 55 percent of Americans overall. 50 percent said they´d like to see most or all of HCR repealed, with 45 percent opposing.
