The head of Japan’s most powerful business lobby warned Monday that the yen’s steep appreciation against the euro will ‘‘gravely’’ affect Japanese companies.Horomasa Yonekuda, chairman of the Japan Business Federation known as Nippon Keidanren, made the comment at a press conference against the backdrop of the euro plunging to its lowest level against the yen in eight years and seven months in Tokyo trading the same day.
But Yonekura said debt troubles in Hungary, which are behind the euro’s depreciation, are not a ‘‘big problem that embraces the whole of Europe.’‘
