TOKYO —
Most of Japan’s public servants, from the nation’s top leaders to rank-and-file employees of the central and local governments, received their summer bonuses Wednesday. The average payment to central government employees in non-managerial administrative jobs is about 577,500 yen for a 35.5-year-old employee, up 4,000 yen, or 0.7%, from last year, marking the first rise in two years.
The rise was mainly because the average age of the employees went up by 0.3 year due to the reduced number of early retirees after the government announced its plan to terminate ‘‘amakudari’’ practices by such retirees and allow civil servants to work until the age limit, the government said.
