Insomniacs May Have Better Sleep When New Sleep Aid is Used

A new device may help insomniacs sleep better when it is used. The Philips Sleepwave, researched and developed in Australia, tends to simulate a gentle rocking motion when placed behind the ear.

The device has a sensor cable which is attached to the mastoid bone behind the ear. Electrical pulses then simulate the rocking motion in the vestibular system of the ear.

It is believed that it is the first non-drug alternative to sleep deprivation. The device is about the size of an MP3 player.
