Mother´s Day was a little different in Huancayo, Peru this year. About 200 spectators showed up to watch ten moms don boxing gloves and headgear and wail on each other. It might in part be the 10,000-foot altitude.
The success of Peruvian 2009 super flyweight champion Kina Malpartida is also seen as an inspiration for this new sporting interest.
The women went three rounds and wore "polleras," a colorful embroidered skirt traditional in the Andes.
