Women Living Near Restaurants Tend to Be Fatter

According to a study conducted by the University at Buffalo, women who live near restaurants are likely to have a higher BMI (body mass index). Those who live near grocery stores tend to have a lower BMI, the study suggests.

Hence, a neighborhood surrounded by restaurants could lead to a net increase in BMI. This means that the interaction of the built environment and the food environment has a decisive impact on your weight.

In 2006, one third of adults in the United States were obese, and women are more likely to become obese than men. But the study by Buffalo University has some limitations since the researchers did not know where the participants shopped for food.
