BEIJING —
Honda may face another halt at its assembly lines in China as there is still no end to a strike that began Wednesday at a joint venture factory in southern China that produces locks and key sets for Honda cars, state media reported Saturday.Workers at the Honda Lock (Guangdong) Co in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, continued to strike over pay, the official Xinhua News Agency quoted workers as saying.
Negotiations at the factory are deadlocked after management’s offer of a 100 yuan, or $14.60, pay raise in the monthly average pay of 1,400 yuan and a hike to 50 yuan in overtime pay per day did not meet workers’ demands, Xinhua said.
The strike at the auto parts supplier had not yet affected assembly lines as there was still a sufficient inventory of locks.
But a spokesman for Honda Motor (China) Investment Co that owns the plant said the current inventory can only last until Saturday and there are no plans yet for production after that, Xinhua reported.
Saturday and Sunday are both official working days in China ahead of a three-day public holiday that begins on Monday.
