The new "Karate Kid" movie starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan has convincingly beaten down the "A-Team" at this weekend´s box office, raking in some US$56 million in ticket sales in North America.
"The A-Team", starring Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper, took in just US$26 million and second spot on the rankings. The third "Shrek" film slipped to third place. "Karate Kid" strengthens 11-year-old Smith´s acting chops as he plays the title role.
Smith is a young boy who moves to China with his mother. The film cost a relatively modest US$40 million to make, and Sony Entertainment would have been happy with box office takings half of what they actually got on debut.
